SUKKUR, Feb 16: Activists of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal took out a procession and staged a sit-in at the new bus terminal here on Thursday in protest against the publication of blasphemous cartoons in European newspapers.
Led by Sindh MMA secretary-general Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, the activists took out the procession from Abad Lakha and marched to the bus terminal where they staged the sit-in for one hour.
The protesters burnt tyres and flags of Denmark and other European countries and blocked the highway.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Soomro condemned the publication of sacrilegious cartoons and demanded that the government should sever diplomatic and trade relations with Denmark and other countries.
He appealed to people to make the general strike on Feb 23 a success.
Meanwhile, two separate protest processions were taken out in Jacobabad against the publication of blasphemous cartoons.
Activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami, led by Imdadullah Bijarani, took out a procession from its local office. After marching through main streets of the city, the protesters reached the press club where they staged a sit-in for two hours.
Another procession was led by Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat Ameer Ali Shah from Pir Bukhari. The procession marched through different streets of the city and terminated at the Jeay Sindh chowk where the participants staged a sit-in for one hour.
The protesters burnt an effigy of the Danish prime minister and a flag of Denmark.
BADIN: On the call of Sunni Tehrik, a complete strike was observed in Badin town on Thursday against blasphemous cartoons.
Activists of religious organizations took out a procession.
The protesters marched on the main roads and raised slogans against the government and USA.
They were demanding of the government to snap ties with anti-Islamic countries.
KHAIRPUR: A shutter-down strike was observed in Setharja town on Thursday against the publication of blasphemous sketches of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in some European newspapers.
Traders staged a demonstration on the main chowk of the town.
Students of the Shah Abdul Latif University took out a procession against the blasphemous cartoons on Thursday.
The procession started from the Shah Latif hostel, marched through different roads and converted into a protest demonstration near Luqman railway Phatak.
NAWABSHAH: Workers of the Anjuman Tuleba-i-Islam and Islamic Students Movement staged separate protest demonstrations outside local press club against the publication of blasphemous cartoons.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards.
SHIKARPUR: A big procession was taken out in Hamayoon Sharif by activists of the Pakistan Ulema-i-Islam, World Islamic Mission and the followers of Dargah Hamayoon Sharif to protest against the publication of blasphemous cartoons.
The procession blocked the Shikarpur-Jacobabad road for two hours.
The protesters raised slogans against the government of Italy who had refused to apologize on the publication of blasphemous cartoons.
They demanded that the Pakistan government as well as all other Muslim countries should sever relations with countries involved in the publication of cartoons.
Activists of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, social welfare organisations and residents of Dakhan staged a demonstration and blocked the Shikarpur-Ratodero road to protest against the publication of blasphemous cartoons.
JACOBABAD: On the call of Jamiat Ahl-i-Sunnat, a big protest rally was taken out against the publication of blasphemous cartoons here on Thursday.
The rally started from Pir Bukhari and reached the DCO chowk.
