LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday disposed of a petition of a local PTI leader seeking permission to hold a corner meeting in Shahdara.

Akmal Khan Bari, a candidate of the PTI from NA-117, filed the petition pleading that the district government denied them permission to hold a corner meeting.

On the court’s notice, Additional Advocate General Malik Surood appeared and stated that no official permission was required to hold corner meetings. He said the political parties needed permission to hold public rallies and meetings only.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi disposed of the petition in light of the law officer’s statement. Meanwhile, Akmal Khan Bari held a meeting with the Insaf Lawyers Forum leaders and discussed plans to bring people out in Shahdra for the public meeting.

He said the PTI would win majority seats in the general elections, while the PML-N and PPP were destined to face defeat. He said the masses were standing with party chairman Imran Khan and those pushing the PTI against the wall had themselves been rejected by the masses.

Mr Bari said the PTI would fight against the corrupt mafia on all fronts.
