KARACHI: Interim Sindh Home Minister retired Brigadier Haris Nawaz on Saturday directed inspector general of police to organise a programme in consultation with the Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory for training police officers in the collection, preservation and handling of evidence at the scenes of crime.

During a visit to the laboratory established on the premises of Karachi University, the minister said that capacity building measures for police investigators, including proper training and necessary equipment, were prerequisites for solving criminal cases.

He remarked that forensic science played a critical role in investigation and scientific analysis of crimes as it could discover vital pieces of a puzzle that could help unravel mystery of what had originally happened in a crime.

He observed that the lab was delivering precise, accurate and timely analysis results and supporting the delivery of evidence-based justice system.

He stressed the importance of collection of evidences from a crime scene and said that the collection and packaging of evidence effectively was critical in a forensic investigation as this contributed to successful completion of a case.

He appreciated the role of Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research for extending significant support to the laboratory.

KU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, project director and in-charge SFDL, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan; Prof Dr Attaur Rehman and others were present on the occasion.
