KARACHI, Feb 13: Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Monday credited the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and its founder Altaf Hussain for mounting swift relief operation for Oct 8 earthquake.

Despite representing the middle class and the down-trodden, MQM workers did a commendable job on the instructions of Mr Altaf Hussain which was still continuing, the governor said while speaking at a ceremony at Jinnah Ground on the occasion of despatching houses for the earthquake victims of Azad Kashmir.

He lauded the sentiments of brotherhood and self-sacrifice, displayed by the MQM cadre.

Parliamentary leader of the MQM in the National Assembly and its coordination committee’s deputy convenor Dr Farooq Sattar, in charge Pakistan chapter of the committee Anwar Alam and others, including Sheikh Liaqut Hussain also spoke.

The governor noted that MQM chief Altaf Hussain was the first to donate a cheque for Rs 5 million for the quake victims and shook the conscience of the world community. He noted that the MQM’s relief operations were a great help at a time when the government efforts had hit a snag in delivering the supplies to the victims of the earthquake.

Governor Ibad also maintained that MQM’s role in the national tragedy had also dispelled the negative impression about MQM and its workers and stressed the need for maintaining national unity.

He also appreciated MQM’s continuing assistance to thousands of widows, children and disabled besides dislocated people.
