Rawalpindi: A former senior executive of the United Nations (UN) Dr Afsar Rathor on Monday advised students to avail themselves of the jobs opportunities in different institutions of the UN and play an active role in facilitating their own country.

Addressing at an international seminar on: “Challenges of the United Nations and Legal Migration to Europe”, held at at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, he also advised them to go for lawful means for migration to Europe as there were many legal ways to migrate to Europe.

Dr Asfar was a guest speaker at the seminar, which was organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Dr Afsar Rathor, while addressing the participants, enumerated the complicated phenomena of the world and presented his vision on how we can move forward in the present situation. He stated that the UN provided peace and security throughout the world and had countless achievements and experience in peacekeeping operations.

Dr Afsar expressed that the main objectives of the UN were to maintain international peace and security, take collective action, and promote cooperation among the nations to support the resolution on the issues of economics, social, humanitarian, and human rights.

He further highlighted the challenges of the UN and suggested their solutions.

He advised the participants to visit the websites of the embassies of different European countries, obtain information, and apply for a visa directly without the involvement of any third person.

Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Abdul Saboor also addressed the participants about the role of the UN in promoting peace and security.

He advised the students to apply for jobs in the UN, become a part of internal society, and play a role for their country.
