PESHAWAR: Twenty-five candidates have filed nomination papers with the respective returning officers for contesting by-elections on the seat of chairman for Mathra and Havelian tehsils.

According to information shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan, 15 candidates have filed their nomination papers for contesting the by-election for the seat of chairman Mathra tehsil in Peshawar and 10 candidates for tehsil Havelian, Abbottabad.

The seat of chairman Mathra tehsil fell vacant when its chairman Faridullah died due to cardiac arrest while chairman tehsil Havilian Atif Munsif Khan was killed in a rocket attack on his car.

On Friday, the returning officers started the scrutiny of the nomination papers which will continue till Sunday.

As per schedule, from July 17 to 18, appeals against decision of the returning officer regarding rejection and acceptance of nomination papers can be filed.

The last date for deciding of appeals by the appellate tribunal has been fixed on July 20 while the returning officers will publish the revised list of the candidates on July 21.

The ECP has fixed July 22 as last date for withdrawal of candidature and publication of revised list of candidates. The ECP will allot election symbols to contesting candidates and publish the list of contesting candidates on July 23.

Polling will be held on Aug 6 and consolidated results will be declared on Aug 8.
