NEVER TOO LATE: If the right type of government is established in Pakistan, even today we can turn things around. If the rich and the poor start getting justice, if all recruitment is done according to merit, if there is peace and harmony in society, the nation can still bounce back to its rightful place on the global stage. No matter which party comes to power as a result of the next general elections, there is no doubt that the nation will accept the leader. The recent riots on and around May 9 have left the nation vulnerable like never before. A wrong image of the country has been portrayed to the world as if the nation is in some sort of confrontation with its own army. Nothing can be farther from truth, for our armed forces remain a symbol of national pride and honour.

SURPLUS TEACHERS: The excessive number of teachers in middle schools across Diplo is a matter that deserves the attention of the relevant authorities. Each such school in the area has about 10 teachers who are surplus to the needs of the schools. This is sheer mismanagement of available resources, especially when you have serious shortage of teachers in primary schools in the same area. Primary schools in Diplo generally have just one teacher. The suffering of that one teacher, and of the students under his charge, is not too difficult to imagine. Teachers should be transferred from middle schools to primary schools. This is not rocket science; just proper use of resources.

WATER SHORTAGE: Water scarcity has increased in Karachi lately, making people’s life miserable. The climate change factor, I believe, is intensifying the phenomenon further. Karachi seems to be the direct recipient of the effects in the shape of acute water shortage. The adminis- tration needs to chalk out a feasible plan in this regard on an urgent basis.
