KARACHI: Four persons, two of them guards of a private security firm, were wounded when armed robbers opened fire on a van carrying cash near Embassy Inn on Sharea Faisal on Thursday.

SHO Imtiaz Hussain of the Tipu Sultan police station said that the robbers riding a motorcycle intercepted the van with intention to loot the money but the security guards offered resistance. He said the robbers opened fire wounding two security guards, the van driver and a cashier. The robbers sped away after failing to loot the cash, the SHO added.

The wounded persons were identified as Majid Husain, Adil Zaib, Shoaib Maqbool and Ghulam Nabi.

According to the SHO, the security guards had picked the cash from an outlet at Tariq Road and the robbers were apparently chasing it to loot the cash.

The wounded victims were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
