GAS LOADSHEDDING: Continued loadshedding of natural gas during Ramazan is affecting life in Karachi which is a source of increasing frustration and anxiety among people. The relevant authorities have to take immediate action to resolve the issue and provide stable and uninterrupted supply of gas to the house- holds. The current situation is unacceptable.

COURT BATTLES: In many countries, especially in the United States, most of the disputes are settled out of courts instead of going through years of protracted court battles; so protracted that people even die without getting justice. There is no harm in adopting the parallel judicial system in Pakistan as well. If we take that route, millions of people will get relief and justice in their lifetime. People will be saved from many hardships time-wise and money-wise. This will also reduce the workload of the courts.

EDUCATION STANDARD: The state of educational affairs in Pakistan today is very disturbing. Not all children can study in English-medium schools basically, and the manner in which English is taught in Urdu-medium schools is pathetic. The school-owners’ focus is on reducing costs, which means the teachers happen to be from among those who are willing to work against mediocre salaries. In today’s world, it is difficult to move ahead without having proper command over the English language.

BRUTAL CLASH: The Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad often suffers from clashes and protests that disrupt academic activities and affect study routines. The recent on-campus clash between two groups of students once again underlined the need to take due action that may bear long-term results. The university administration had to shut down academic activity and even directed all students to vacate the hostels as well. Things certainly need to improve at the university.
