CityTech2023 conference explores the transformative role of technology in education

CityTech2023, the highly anticipated conference exploring the transformative power of technology in education, took place on March 18, 2023, at the City School PAF Chapter in Karachi. The event brought together a diverse group of educators, technologists, and industry leaders to share their insights and experiences on the role of technology in education.

Keynote speakers, such as Rob Jamieson, Head of International Channels & Partnerships at Pearson Schools Qualifications, and Dr. Kevin Martin, Centre Manager, Digital Education Futures Initiative (DEFI), Cambridge, delivered inspiring speeches on how technology can transform education and how to overcome challenges faced in implementing Education Technology. Kashif Khan, Director of Strategy and Operations at The City School, and Jehanghir Firoz also shared their perspectives on the future of education through technology incorporation.

In addition to keynote speeches, the conference featured presentations and panel discussions on future technologies used in schools, such as augmented reality, virtual reality, flexible displays, smart desks, gaming, learning analytics, and AI. The speakers addressed the challenges and myths of Education Technology, such as distraction, lack of socialising, lack of creativity, and health issues. The attendees left the event with a better understanding of how to prepare schools for the future demands of Education Technology.

The speakers emphasised that Education must come before Technology in EdTech. Thus, education is at the forefront, assisted by technology.
