KARACHI: Rescue efforts were under way on the second consecutive day on Saturday to recover a young woman believed to have jumped into the sea to commit suicide at Seaview on Friday.

SSP-South Syed Asad Raza on Saturday evening said that rescue efforts were still under way to recover the woman, identified as Sarah Malik, 23.

He, however, said that it appeared that the young woman had committed suicide.

He added that the DHA management and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency were also in contact with police besides Edhi volunteers in their boats were already searching for her.

The girl’s father, Abrar Ahmed, was also in touch with the police, the SSP said, adding that the girl worked at a local hospital.

Footage from CCTV cameras and the call data record of her cell phone showed that last time her mother had called her when she was reportedly crying.

The CCTV footage showed a colleague of her dropping at the gate of the hospital from where she had gone on Friday.

The SSP hinted at the possibility of approaching relevant authorities to launch an aerial search for the missing girl at sea.
