CHARSADDA: Residents of Shaheed Banda area of Shabqadar tehsil here on Monday protested the delay in payment of compensation for their lands used up for construction of an irrigation channel.

The protesters holding placards chanted slogans against the district administration and authorities of Mohmand Dam.

Speaking to the protesters, Malak Zamarud, Malak Akbar Shah, Taj Mir, Osman, Sajjad, Mohammad Ali, Pir Syed and others said the irrigation channel was built some 10 months ago, but they were yet to be paid compensation.

They said compensation should be given to them according to the rate fixed by the National Commission.

Meanwhile, the inter-government girls’ middle, high and higher secondary schools sports gala concluded with a colourful ceremony at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex, Charsadda, on Monday.

District education officer Suria Begum was the chief guest at the final-day function.

Ms Suria Begum, focal person Naz Gul and deputy district education officer Laila Ali distributed trophies and prizes among the winning teams.
