OKARA: Police claim to have arrested three robbers on Tuesday night, after they got injured when the snatched car they were using to escape overturned while being chased by police vehicles near 52/2L village underpass.

As per the first information report (FIR) registered by cantonment police, SHO Sub-Inspector Saifur Rehman, along with a police team, was on patrol near Tabrook Adda, Multan Road, when two men -- Safdar and Usman -- both residents of 12/4L village, told them that they had been robbed of their car, a mobile phone, two weapons and cash by three unidentified robbers, who just fled the scene.

In the light of the information, the police started chasing the suspects and spotted them near Baba Lal Shah shrine in the snatched car.

On being signaled to stop, the suspects opened fire on the police team and sped up the car.

Meanwhile, the chasing team sent a wireless message to Okara Sadar and Gogera police mobiles, already patrolling the area, about the fleeing criminals.

Acting on the wireless message, the police personnel blocked the road, but the criminals turned towards 52/2L underpass, where their car overturned after hitting the road divider.

The police nabbed three injured suspects from the damaged car, who were identified as Abid, Khalid Joyia and Akhtar Sahi, all belonging to Bahawalnagar district.

The injured suspects were shifted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment, while the police impounded the snatched cars and recovered the booty, along with 16 live bullets, Rs55,000 and two registration plates from them.

The police have registered a case against the three suspects under sections 392, 397, 323 and 411 of the Pakistan Penal Code, besides sections 13/20-1965 and 2-A of The Arms Amended Ordinance 2015.
