KARACHI: Prof Dr Hasan Mujtaba Naqvi, the founding director general of the Dr A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Energy (KIBGE) at the University of Karachi, passed away in Karachi. He was 82.

KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood Iraqi and the incumbent KIBGE director general, Prof Dr Abid Azhar, expressed their condolence over the loss of a very senior academic.

Dr Naqvi got his PhD in Biochemistry from Edinburgh, UK. Born in Amroha, he also served at the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. He was the founding director general of the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering, Faisalabad.
