TOBA TEK SINGH: The Faisalabad’s Peoples Colony police claimed on Saturday to have arrested seven suspects in raids at different cities of the country who were involved in the Sept 22 incident of torture of media person Munawar Iqbal on Jaranwala Road.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday at Faisalabad, RPO Dr Moeen Masood and CPO Omer Saeed Malik claimed that 11 suspects were identified through CCTV cameras and police would continue efforts to arrest the remaining ones.

They added that on the demand of journalists, section 395 of PPC had also been inserted in the first information report for snatching a cash of Rs755,000 from the reporter; however section 7 of ATA will be added after the legal opinion is received from the district prosecutor.

Investigation SSP retired Capt Muhammad Ajmal said the initial probe showed that a former Rail Bazaar Station House Officer Qalab-i-Abbas had a main role behind the attack as he had an exchange of arguments with the media person in police station over some issue on August 25. He added that Qalab-i-Abbas had been granted bail before arrest by a court.
