LAKKI MARWAT: The workers of Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) held a protest demonstration in Bannu city on Wednesday against the non-payment of their salaries for the last two months.

Hundreds of employees carrying placards inscribed with their demand gathered outside the press club building after passing through different bazaars. The employees’ union president Noor Ayaz Khan led the rally.

Speaking on the occasion, All Local Government Employees Federation provincial vice-president Karim Dad Khan, Noor Ayaz and others said that the employees had not been paid their salaries for the last two months, making it difficult for them to make both ends meet.

They asked the government to relieve the DC of the additional charge of WSSC CEO and give it back to ex-chief executive officer Tauqeer Hussain.

Meanwhile, police seized eight kiolgrammes of narcotics in separate actions in Lakki Marwat on Thursday.

An official said the police posted at Wanda Banochi checkpost intercepted a Tank-bound coach and during search seized two kilogrammes of heroin concealed under the driver’s seat.

He said the police had arrested the driver identified as Waseeullah.

Separately, an alleged drug trafficker was arrested during a raid in Ghaznikhel area. An official said the police recovered six kilogrammes of hashish from the suspect identified as Khizar Hayat and had registered a case against him.
