DERA GHAZI KHAN: The municipal corporation (MC) has failed to keep the sewerage drain system functional, resulting in the inundation of streets with sewage. Most of the drains are choked at various locations of the city, including Model Town.

Locals said they visited the MC complaint office to get the choked drains fixed but in vain.

When this correspondent contacted the commissioner, also the MC administrator, Liaquat Ali Chattha said it has been decided to clean and upgrade the disposal works of the Dera Ghazi Khan city. To resolve the sewage draining, all disposal stations would be operated to the capacity.

Mr Chattha visited Model Town, Bhatta Colony, Khayaban Sarwar and several other locations affected by choked drains on foot. Development Director Obaidur Rashid, Assistant Commissioner Shakib Sarwar and other officers accompanied him.

MC’s Joda Al Hasan and Afzal Jatoi briefed the commissioner.

Commissioner orders fixing of choked lines

The commissioner also inspected disposal works and said the availability of adequate fuel should be ensured. He also issued orders for the upgrade of disposal works and proper sanitation and immediate repair of broken or choked lines. He said that due to the non-operation of disposal works, the number of crown failures is increasing, causing suffering for the residents. He said that failure to improve municipal services and solve public problems would not be tolerated.

The commissioner got data on the employees of the disposal stations and ordered the staff of the solid waste management company to wear a uniform.

BEAUTIFICATION PLAN: Work has started on the beautification of the civil minor passing through Dera Ghazi Khan city.

The plan includes the cleanliness of the drain, construction of a jogging track and the installation of lights and plants and other things along the minor.

The plan was discussed at a meeting where Commissioner Chattha said the locals must be educated about the care of plants. Cases will be registered against those who damage the plants and other infrastructure. Instructions were also issued for police patrolling along the track.

The commissioner urged the students of the Girls College, Education University and other institutions near the civil minor to take responsibility for the protection of the installation.

GAS: The gas consumers of Rojhan city have been suffering due to the suspension of gas supply to the area for a month.

The gas pipeline to Rojhan was partially damaged due to the rapid flow of the floodwaters in Rojhan.

MNA Riaz Mehmood Mazari has appealed to the top officials of the gas utility to restore the supply as soon as possible to provide relief to dwellers of the area.
