There was no issue of the newspaper on September 12, 1972 on account of a holiday due to the Quaid-i-Azam’s death anniversary. The following excerpt has been taken from the previous day’s issue.

CAIRO: The Arab League’s 18-member States were warned yesterday that the Israel air strikes against Syria and Lebanon on Friday would not be the last, and that Arab states should expect more, and bigger, attacks.

The Arab League’s Secretary-General, Mr Mahmoud Riad, told a gathering of the League’s Foreign Ministers that lodging complaints to the United Nations was an international necessity “in denouncing the Zionist attacks. But it was not the means of repelling or stopping them.” He urged the member-States to work out a joint Arab plan for the liberation of the Arab land occupied by Israel “Before the aggressor strengthens his hand over it, and launches a new expansionist aggression.”

[The event] was arranged some time ago, but its agenda had to be hastily rearranged to take account of the events which followed the killings of Arab guerrillas and Israeli sportsmen in Munich earlier this week. Making his first formal speech since he became the League’s Secretary-General last June 1, Mr. Riad said unified Arab action was needed to “enable us to hold out and repel the Israeli aggressions.” — Agencies
