SWABI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (KPBC) on Wednesday announced that the legal fraternity would observe a complete strike on Thursday (today) at the Peshawar High Court’s principal seat and attached nine districts against assassination attempt on Swabi-based senior lawyer Mohammad Ishfaq Khan.

Mr Ishfaq, who is also Razaar tehsil president of Awami National Party, was seriously injured when he was attacked by two unidentified motorcyclists near his hujra (guest house) on Monday.

A press statement issued by KPBC was also distributed among mediapersons, in which the bar council’s vice-chairman Mohammad Ali Khan Jadoon and executive committee chairman Mohammad Illyas said the lawyers observed a strike in the district on Tuesday, but so far the police could not trace the attackers.

Later, on the demand of lawyers belonging to Mardan division, the KPBC decided to observe a complete strike on Thursday (today) and as such no lawyer would appear in Peshawar High Court and other courts in Peshawar and the attached nine districts, including Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, Khyber, Mohmand and Parachinar.

The lawyers’ strike in Swabi caused difficulties for the litigants as many cases fixed for the day had to be adjourned without hearing.

CHILD DROWNS: A seven-year-old Afghan child drowned in Gohati canal and Rescue 1122 divers have started search for recovery of his body.

Rescue 1122 officials said the child Abuzar Shah, son of Afzal Umar, was a resident of Gohati Afghan refugee camp.
