LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi says Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial has played the role in promoting democracy by accepting PMl-Q’s demand for holding the election for Punjab chief minister’s slot after the July 17 by-poll in the province.

Addressing a party officials’ meeting in connection with the preparations for the upcoming by-poll here on Saturday, he said the CJP’s decision would go a long way in holding clean and transparent elections and preventing fraud.

Mr Elahi said the PML-Q was fully supporting the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidates in the by-elections, adding that the party’s support would have a clear impact on the by-poll results.

He said the party leaders should ask the people to exercise their right to vote to reject the “imported government”.

Mr Elahi said inflation had made life difficult for the people, regretting that no one cared about the poor.

He said the government had no policy to curb the hike in prices of petroleum and other daily necessities.
