KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by armed men when he resisted their mugging attempt in the Korangi area, police said on Monday.

The Zaman Town police said that Danish Zahid, 27, was killed by the firing of unknown muggers as he put up resistance at Ghous Pak Road near Faran School. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Man axed to death

A man was axed to death and his sister was hurt in Gadap City on Monday evening.

Police said that Shahid, 35, was killed and her sister, Rasheeda, 45, injured over some family dispute in Hadi Baksh Goth.

The suspect, identified as Hidayat, managed to escape from the scene.

The police said the suspect was a close relative of the victims and had living with them for the past 10 days.

The incident appeared to be the outcome of some family dispute.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Man dies of burns

A 50-year-old man burned to death in a Clifton locality on Monday evening, police said.

Clifton SHO Naseer Tanoli said that Bahadur Ali, a differently abled person, was living with another man in a small rented room in Gulshan-i-Sikanderabad.

He was apparently trying to cook something when a fire erupted and his clothes caught fire. He died of burns.

The SHO said that smoke emanating from the room alerted area people who broke open the lock and recovered his body.

The corpse was shifted to the JPMC to fulfil medico-legal formalities.
