TOBA TEK SINGH: A woman and her two children suffered burns in an acid attack on them by her former husband in Faisalabad’s Afzalabad Colony on Wednesday.
According to the FIR registered by the Nishatabad police under sections 336-B and 324 of PPC on the complaint of Muhammad Wasim, his mother Yasmeen Akhtar, 45, got divorce from her husband Malik Muhammad Azam through court about six months ago and contracted marriage with Muhammad Farooq. She, along with her daughter Ayesha Bibi, 16, and son Muhammad Hasnain, 12, was at her house when the suspect came there and threw acid on them, he said.
Yasmeen was severely burnt whereas her children suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the Ghulam Muhammadabad hospital where doctors referred them to burns unit of the Allied Hospital. Doctors said the woman had suffered 70pc burns and was in a critical condition.
Regional Police Officer Ali Nasir Rizwi told reporters that police raided 11 places and finally arrested the suspect.
INJURED: Robbers shot at and injured two persons at Chak 23 GB in Jaranwala (Faisalabad) on Wednesday.
Police said armed men entered a house and shot at and injured two persons on resistance. Both were admitted to the Jaranwala THQ hospital. They were identified as Amer Majeed, 32, and his uncle Abdul Latif, 60.
PROTEST: Dozens of people, of Rajana Chak 182-GB, on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration outside the DPO office against the alleged kidnapping of Christian girl Fiza Masih and the police’s failure to rescue her.
They said that on May 29, Fiza, 12, was abducted by neighbour Adil and his three family members for which a case under section 365 -B was registered on her father Irfan Masih’s complaint.
A spokesperson for the police claimed that one of the nominated suspects, Sabir, was arrested.
He said the girl embraced Islam in Faisalabad’s Jamia Rizwia Mazharul Islam and contracted marriage with Adil with her changed name Khadija on May 31 while her husband Adil has filed a petition before the Lahore High Court for quashing the FIR.
DPO Rana Shoaib Mahmood assured the protesters the Rajana police would fully support the complainant party’s version on hearing in the LHC over which they ended their protest.
