KARACHI: A woman and her two young daughters were killed while her third daughter and another relative woman injured when the roof of their Machhar Colony house caved in on early Monday morning, police and rescue workers said.

Docks SHO Pervez Ali Solangi said the house owner, Noor Alam, was constructing a room on the roof, which apparently could not withstand the burden of construction and collapsed. As a result, five family members were wounded and trapped in the debris.

They were retrieved and shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors pronounced Rashida Noor Alam, 50, and her two daughters — Yasmeen, 20, and Amina, 16 — dead on arrival.

Anwara, 14, and Sanwara Yunus also suffered injuries and they were admitted for treatment. Their condition was stated to be out of danger.

Woman found shot dead

The body of a young woman was found in the Manghopir area on Monday.

Police said that the woman, in her mid-20s, was shot in the head. A shepherd found the body in bushes on a plot in Wangi Goth near the terminus of W-22 minibus. He also found a minor girl next to the body. Subsequently, rescue workers and police reached the spot.

The girl, aged around four-five years, told the rescue workers and police that her father had killed her mother.

However, West SSP Dr Farrukh Raza said the girl was minor and at this stage no opinion could be made on the basis of her statement.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that the woman could not be identified till late in the night. She said the minor girl was apparently her daughter and she suffered minor bruises.

Manghopir SHO Yasin Gujjar said the girl was handed over to the Chhipa charity.
