GUJRAT: Most of the city areas have been experiencing ‘worst-ever’ gas loadshedding as there has been no supply for the domestic consumers since Wednesday evening.

The domestic consumers have lodged a strong protest against the consistent loadshedding of gas in the summer season which is unprecedented as such a situation would often arise in the winter.

The domestic consumers have complained to the local SNGPL authorities about the unavailability of natural gas in the city.

The consumers say they have to rely on the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders to cook the meals; however, the poor segment of society has been unable to even have such a facility of alternate fuel for cooking purposes.

They say the residential localities like Ali Pura Road, Bhimbher Road, Rehman Shaheed Road, Shadman Colony, Qamar Sialvi Road, GT Road and a number of other areas had been the worst affected by the gas loadshedding.

Manzoor Elahi Chan, a resident of city’s down town area, told Dawn in front of the local SNGPL office that there had been no gas for the last more than 24 hours causing a great deal of inconvenience to the consumers.

He said the city had been facing such a situation for the last couple of weeks that there was no surety of getting supply particularly at the cooking times in the morning and evening; however, this was for the first time that gas had totally been suspended since Wednesday evening.

The consumers say that they were told by the local SNGPL office that the situation might get better by Thursday afternoon but there has been no improvement in the supply of gas until night.

The local industry has already been complaining of non-provision of gas as well as the increase in the tariff.

An official of SNGPL Gujrat region told this correspondent that the issue had been caused due to the delay in the supply of imported gas that had to be connected into the main supply line.

However, he said the situation had been in the notice of higher authorities and hopefully the supplies would resume soon.
