PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s demand for early elections and stated that the coalition government would go for polls only after electoral reforms.

Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar Press Club here on Saturday, PPP women wing provincial president Senator Rubina Khalid said that her party also wanted general elections in the country so that the people could elect their true representatives in fair and impartial manner.

Flanked by PPP women wing provincial senior vice-president Nelofer Babar, general secretary Shazia Tehmas, information secretary Meher Sultana and others, she said that there was no truth in the narrative of former prime minister Imran Khan about a conspiracy against his government and said that the change came as a result of no-confidence through a democratic process.

The lawmaker said that it was bad luck of Imran Khan that he lost the confidence of his allies. She said the credit went to former president Asif Zardari for taking along his coalition partners. She also appreciated the role of judiciary for taking notice of the violations by PTI leadership.

The PPP leader alleged that Imran Khan had victimised the leaders of his rival political parties and arrested Faryal Talpur at midnight from a hospital in Sindh.

She said her party believed in debate and tolerance and never supported using religious card against its political opponents. She said her party was not in favour of registration of false cases.

“PPP believes in peaceful protests for resolution of public problems, strengthening of democracy and rule of law,” she claimed and asked the PTI leadership to avoid taking law into its own hands.

Senator Rubina Khalid condemned the tendency of dragging state institutions into politics, saying that everyone should abide by the law of the land.
