VEHARI: A 16-year-old girl was killed by her uncle in the name of honour at Chak 44-WB in Thingi police precincts, some 30km from here, on Monday.

Reports said ‘A’ wanted to marry a man of her choice and her family opposed her proposal. On Sunday night, she was asleep in her house when her uncle Raees Bhatti came there and opened fire, killing her on the spot.

Thingi police have registered a case against Raees under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Thingi Station House Officer Khalid Mehmood told Dawn that police had registered a case against Raees Bhatti on the application of the girl’s father.

The SHO said New Multan police had already registered a kidnap case against Jaffar under section 376 of the PPC on the application of girl’s father Rafique. The SHO said the body was handed over to family after autopsy at Vehari DHQ hospital. He said police were raiding to arrest the suspect.
