ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Wapda qualified for both men’s and women’s final of the National Netball Championship here at the Liaquat Gymnasium of Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Both the finals will be played on Thursday.

In an exciting men’s semi-final, Wapda defeated Navy 23-20.

After the match, a brawl took place between players of both the teams. However, the organisers eventually managed to control the situation.

“The issue of quarrel has been referred to [the] disciplinary committee. This is unfortunate,” said Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) president Mudassar Arain.

Speaking to Dawn, he however, said since the brawl took place after the match, therefore, it had nothing to do with the final result of the match.

Wapda in the decider will face the winners of the Army-HEC semi-final, which was in progress at the time of filing of this report.

Earlier in the quarter-finals, Wapda beat Punjab 40-18, Army outplayed Islamabad 54-19, Navy outclassed Police 41-19 and the HEC beat Gilgit-Baltistan 31-14.

In the women’s semi-finals, Wapda overcame Army 22-17 and in the final face the HEC which edged out Sindh 14-13 in their last-four match.

Wapda beat Punjab 24-18, Sindh routed Gilgit-Baltistan 30-6, Army outclassed AJK 39-3 and the HEC crushed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 29-8 in the women’s quarter-finals.
