Pakistan has reported five fatalities from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the first time since Jan 23 that daily fatalities have dropped to single digits.

The country reported eight deaths on that date.

Pakistan also detected 856 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, marking a second straight day of fewer than 1,000 infections.

The national positivity rate slightly increased to 2.5 per cent, compared to 2.1pc a day earlier.

The countrywide breakdown is as follows:

  • Sindh: 452 cases
  • Punjab: 262 cases, 1 death
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 68 cases, 2 deaths
  • Balochistan: 1 case
  • Islamabad: 44 cases, 2 deaths
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 7 cases
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 22 cases
