HYDERABAD: A 14-year-old boy died while using a makeshift cargo lift of a shop in Azeem-us-Shan Cloth Market within the limits of the Phulelli police station on late Monday evening.

Ehtisham, son of Mohammad Akram Arain, apparently got his head hit against the wall while using the lift which was without a door, according to the victim’s brother, Hasan Arain.

The police were told that the boy was hired by Usman, a cloth merchant, and sent to the rooftop to switch-off power generator. When he did not return after considerable time, some co-workers went to the rooftop and found Ehtisham lying in the lift. He was shifted to the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) but could not survive.

Husan said his family did not want to lodge an FIR of the accidental death.

Two cooks suffer burns

Two cooks sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out in a sixth floor flat of Chandni Plaza within the jurisdiction of the Cantonment police station on Tuesday morning.

The injured, Lowe, 28, and Kamlesh, 30, both residents of Mithi in Tharparkar district, told the police that flames filled the kitchen when a matchstick was lit inside. They said leakage in pipeline might have caused accumulation of gas in the kitchen.
