BAHAWALPUR: The police of Bahawalpur and Lodhran districts on Monday claimed to have arrested two constables for committing different offences, besides suspending them and some other officials from service on various charges.

According to Bahawalpur District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, a constable, Tariq Ilyas, on his way to Yazman from Musa Colony trespassed on a cattle pen, resorted to aerial firing and quarreled with the pen’s owners when they tried to stop him.

The police swung into action on an emergency call received on helpline 15.

Baghdad-ul-Jadid police, on the orders of the DPO, registered an FIR (No 8/22) against the constable and arrested him.

Later, the DPO suspended the constable from service and served a show-cause notice on him in the lock-up, where he was lodged after his arrest.

In Lodhran, the city police claimed to have arrested a constable, Ghulam Shabir, after he allegedly entered a training institute and hurled threats at its Principal Mr Rizwan.

Later, when the principal narrated the episode appearing on a private TV channel, the suspect allegedly kidnapped him from the institute and took him to police station, where he and other police official tortured Mr Rizwan.

DPO Abdul Raoof Babar took notice of the incident and after registration of an FIR against the constable ordered his arrest, besides suspending him from service.

According to Lodhran district police spokesperson Imran Umar, the DPO also suspended ASI Safdar Mansoor from service on public complaints, while six constables -- Nadeem, Qamar Shehzad, Allah Rakha, Imtiaz, Jahangir and Shafiq -- were also suspended from service for allegedly violating discipline.

Besides, a constable, Rameaz Mumtaz, was dismissed from services after corruption charges were proved against him.
