SWABI: Qaumi Watan Party central chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has asked the prime minister to tender resignation without delay and announce fresh elections in the country over his government’s ‘failure’ on all fronts.

He was addressing a public meeting held in Zaida city here on Saturday to welcome Adnan Khan Yousafzai, a former election candidate and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who joined the QWP along with supporters.

Mr Sherpao said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s further stay in power would endanger the country. He said the government had failed to stop surge in prices of essential goods, electricity and petroleum products.

He said sugar mafia was part of the government and enjoying protection against accountability. He said the 2018 general elections were a farce.

Mr Sherpao said inflation and unemployment had reached alarming proportions during the PTI’s rule, the national debt was climbing, the economy had turned feeble and the rupee had reached to historic lows against the US dollar. These factors had distressed the people, he added.

The QWP chief said the government had no vision to meet the confronting challenges.

Mr Sherpao said the opposition parties should use every available option to pressure the government to take steps for easing the financial difficulties of people.

He welcomed Adnan Yousafzai and his supporters into the party fold.

Masood Jabbar, QWP Swabi chairman, and other leaders also spoke on the occasion.

SUGAR QUOTA: The district administration has selected dealers for selling subsidised sugar to consumers across the district, sources said on Saturday.

They said 11 dealers had been selected for Swabi tehsil, eight for Topi, six for Razaar and three for Chota Lahor. The dealers would get the imported sugar at subsidised rate of Rs86 per kilogramme and sell it at Rs90 per kg.

A letter issued by district administration mentioned the names and telephone numbers of the dealers.
