KARACHI: A young man allegedly killed his father and injured his bed-ridden mother suffering from cancer in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Friday, police said.

The Aziz Bhatti police said Mohammed Suleman, 64, and his wife, Doulat Suleman, 62, were injured by their son, Dawood, 35, inside their flat at Zainab Plaza near Baitul Mukaram Masjid. The suspect fled after the crime.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said the injured couple was initially taken to a nearby private hospital where the man was pronounced dead. Later, the body and injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

JPMC Additional Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said the man suffered multiple injuries in the head and face caused by some hard and blunt weapon. The woman also had three to four injury marks on the head by the same object.

As the injured woman, a cancer patient, was in a state of shock, she was referred for a CT scan. She was apparently stable, she said.

As per another son, who brought the body of his father and injured mother to the JPMC, his brother was a drug addict, who got admitted at a rehabilitation centre from where he was discharged around four to five days ago. After killing his father and injuring mother, the suspect told his niece that something had happened to her grandfather and escaped from home.
