TAXILA: As the newly-elected members of the cantonment board took their oath on October 7, the PML-N is flexing its muscles to nominate a candidate for the slot of vice president (VP) Cantonment Board Wah.

According to party sources, former VP Raja Mohammad Ayub, Malik Arif Mehmood and Haji Abdul Rehman are vying for the slot.

But sources said the party was in a fix over the nomination as new and seasoned politicians were vying for the slot and any wrong decision would not only create rifts among the party ranks but would have a negative impact on the upcoming local government.

They said Haji Rehman, who closely contested his rival from the PTI, was considered as the most favourite candidate for the slot.

A committee, headed by party’s divisional president Malik Ibrar and consisting of former MPA Umer Farooq, who is also the district president of the party, would meet at Kohistan Secretariat soon to decide about the nomination.

“We took all the aspirant candidates into confidence at the time of awarding tickets before the elections and would decide this important matter in the same democratic manner,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cantonment Board Taxila PresidentBrig Imran Haider Sherazi administered oath to the newly-elected members.
