ISLAMABAD: Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Agha on Thursday urged the Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) to launch welfare schemes for rehabilitation of drug addicts in the province.

The governor visited the Baitul Mal headquarters here and discussed with PBM Managing Director Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokhar welfare schemes being run by the organisation for the poor people of Balochistan.

The governor also suggested to the PBM managing director to take initiative to help a large number of poor people living in far-flung areas of the province.

He assured full support of the provincial government for the expansion of PBM’s pro-poor schemes.

Mr Agha praised the PBM work for the last three years in the remote areas of Balochistan.

The PBM managing director appreciated the governor’s idea of starting welfare schemes for drug addicts in Balochistan and assured the latter that concrete steps would be taken for the purpose.

On the occasion, the Balochistan governor inaugurated PBM’s Panahgah App.

The app will help maintain a centralised screen displaying the number of people benefitting from shelter homes as well as the number of meals being served there.

It will also facilitate beneficiaries to find out locations of Panahgahs. Additionally, the donors can also be part of this pro-poor initiative by donating online via Panahgah App.

“Adopting such technological innovations will lead us in improving our capabilities to serve the poor people in an efficient and transparent manner by having the real time data,” the PBM chief said.
