TAX REBATE

Published September 15, 2021

TAX REBATE: The announcement by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) that there will be no extension in the due date for filing of income tax returns is a good sign for the country. Those who pay their taxes and file their returns timely actually want the FBR not to extend the date at all. In case, it does extend it for whatever reason, there should be at least a five per cent rebate on tax liability for all those who have filed the returns on time.

F.B.R. WEBSITE: It seems like the official website of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is not accessible from outside the country since it was hit by a cyberattack recently. What would the FBR authorities suggest the taxpaying overseas Pakistanis to do in such a scenario as the closing date is fast approaching? How can we file our tax returns by the end of this month if the website does not get functional?

BOOSTER SHOT: I am a 77-year-old overseas Pakistani and I am unable to go back to Canada, as I was inoculated with the Sinopharm vaccine which is not acceptable there. I want to make sure the availability of the booster shot to avoid any hassle due to my health condition, but no vaccination centre in Karachi is answering my calls. Can someone come to my rescue?

DISREGARDED DISTRICTS: This is with reference to the report ‘Rules of business for south Punjab secretariat approved’ (Sept 1), which revealed that Mianwali and Bhakkar have been excluded from the list of districts that fall under the jurisdiction of the secretariat. It is rather a regrettable development as these two districts have been at the forefront of the cause for south Punjab province from the very beginning. The government needs to reconsider the decision.
