KARACHI: The Gymkhana race meeting that was scheduled to take place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday has been cancelled due to persistent rain in the city, an official told Dawn on Saturday evening.

According to him, the next meeting will now take place next Sunday (Sept 12).

Earlier, the Karachi Race Club (KRC) had issued a four-race card for Sunday’s meeting.

Meanwhile, the KRC has raised winning stakes of first three horses with effect from Sept 1, which now will be applicable from the next round of races.

This is the second time that the stakes have been raised in the year, the first time being on Jan 1.

This has been done to give incentive to owners, trainers and riders, an official of the KRC confided to Dawn.

The owner is entitled to get 80 percent of the stakes while trainer and rider equally share the remaining 20 percent.
