Labourer’s daughter ‘sold for Rs0.5m’ in Punjab's Narowal

NAROWAL: A worker of a landlord allegedly sold the underage daughter of a labourer for Rs0.5m after abducting her from village Akalgarh near Narowal.

Muhammad Rashid, a resident of Akalgarh village, said his 15-year-old daughter Mafia Rashid was abducted by Ghulam Abbas, the employee of a landlord, a resident of Qadirpur, Multan. Abbas aka Heera had been working at Chaudhry Muhammad Usman’s outhouse for the last three years.

Rashid alleged that Abbas had kidnapped Mafia in connivance with his wife, her brother and other accomplices. He said he had received a phone call from an unidentified person who told her that his daughter had been sold for Rs0.5m.

The Saddar Narowal Police Station registered a case against Abbas, his wife and her brother on the complaint of Rashid. The complainant’s family accused police of leniency with the suspects. Rashid said they did not have two meals a day and they could not the police money for going to Multan to arrest the suspects and recover his daughter.

The girl’s family has requested Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to take steps to recover his daughter and action against the suspects.

SNAKEBITE: A 20-year-old girl died after a snake bit her during sleep at night at village Darianwala on the New Lahore Road.

The family of Muhammad Naseer, a labourer in Lahore, was asleep while his 20-year-old Faiqa suddenly woke up screaming loud. A venomous snake had crawled under her bed after biting her. The family killed the snake.

Faiqa’s condition started deteriorating due to the snakebite and the family called Rescue 1122 Narowal office. Rescue 1122 gave her first aid and shifted her to the District Headquarters Hospital where the doctors referred her to the Mayo Hospital Lahore. Faiqa died on the way to Lahore.
