RAWALPINDI: The district administration on Tuesday asked provincial departments to observe three per cent quota for persons with disabilities while making recruitment.

“These are not disabled persons but are differently-abled persons who are blessed with many other qualities,” Assistant Commissioner (Headquarter) Anisha Hasham said in the meeting of the Committee for Redressal of Issues of PWDs at deputy commissioner office Rawalpindi.

Punjab Social Welfare Director Shahid Rana, Focal Person for Blind Persons Nabeeel Satti, District Officer Special Education Dr Fazia Ahmed, Deputy Agriculture Khalid Malik, Rawalpindi Eye Donors Association Dr Sadia Ahmed and Focal person for Persons with Disability Raja Imran also attended the meeting.

Ms Hasham said special person did not need our sympathies, adding that “we all should play our part to give them a chance to explore and polish their abilities and make the best use of them”.

She said the Punjab government had allocated quota of 3pc for them in government jobs which was aimed to include them in the mainstream.

She directed the education department to solve the salary issue of daily-wage earners.

“Extension of daily wagers and regularisation of PWD employees should also be expedited. There is a plan to establish assessment boards at tehsil headquarter level and one-window operation at the district headquarter level for disability assessment,” she added.

While briefing the meeting about the current status, director social welfare said under the directions of the Punjab chief minister, disabled persons were being facilitated in every possible way.
