National netball from 27th

KARACHI: The 20th National Men’s and Women’s Netball Championship starts here at Hameedi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex on June 27.

“Pakistan Sports Board director general retired Col Mohammad Asif Zaman will inaugurate the championship. Wapda will defend both men’s and women’s titles at the championship,” said Pakistan Netball Federation president Mudassar Arain the other day.

He said 13 teams from all over the country had confirmed their participation in the championship including Pakistan Army, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Navy, Wapda, Pakistan Police, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab and Islamabad.

The semi-finals will be played on June 29 while finals of both categories (men and women) will be held on June 30.

According to Mudassar, the players who show good performance during the national championship will be selected for Pakistan teams for the Netball World Cup and the Asian Championship this year.
