ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said that Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal to discuss electoral reforms at an all-party conference (APC) is ridiculous and tantamount to bypassing the parliament.

In a Twitter posting on Saturday, the minister said such important decisions were made within the precincts of parliament.

He said the opposition leader was becoming part of an agenda to weaken the parliament, which was unfortunate.

The minister said that after the failure of the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement, Mr Sharif had come up with this new story of the APC.

While rejecting Mr Sharif’s suggestion in a statement earlier, the minister said: “How can people who are in the habit of rigging elections suggest transparent elections?”

He said the masses can no longer be fooled by the opposition through such gimmickry.
