QUETTA, Oct 19: Elders of the Sadaat-i-Karani clan have called upon the provincial government to settle the issue of barren land in Quetta valley to prevent tribal feuds which may erupt due to bogus registration by the tehsil staff of the land belonging to local tribesmen.
Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Wednesday, Syed Ali Ahmed Shah and other elders of the clan said that the killing of four people in Kili Ghulam Jan (Sariab) on October 15 was the result of fake registration of a plot of land.
They said that the British government had in 1945 carried out settlement of some of the land in Quetta valley and registered it in names of tribesmen. But now, they alleged that the tehsil staff in collaboration with land mafia were selling the unsettled barren land through bogus registrations.
They claimed that on the directives of the then acting president, Mr Wasim Sajjad, then governor of Balochistan Abdul Rahim Durrani had on Dec 6 1995 cancelled the bogus settlement of the land conducted in 1986-87 following strong protests by local tribesmen.
They appealed to the president and the prime minister to intervene and restrain the tehsil staff from re-issuing cancelled settlement transfer of land registration to land mafia.
GOVERNOR: Provincial Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has said the contributions made by the people of Balochistan for earthquake victims in Azad Kashmir and the NWFP was an expression of solidarity and love for their brethren.
Talking to volunteers during a visit to relief camps established in the city on Wednesday, the governor said that the earthquake was a major tragedy but the immediate response of the people across the country was a source of comfort for the victims.
He said that contributions made by the people in cash and kind helped ease problems of the victims and, at the same time, effectively demonstrated that the people and the government were united in efforts to help their brethren in their hour of distress.
Vast areas in Azad Kashmir and the NWFP were hit by the quake and therefore, Mr Owais said that it was the responsibility of the people to continue their cooperation with people engaged in providing relief to the affected people.
The governor visited the camps set up at Bolan Shop, Askari Park, Meezan Chowk, Shara-i-Adalat and Jinnah Road.
Volunteers at the camps informed the governor about relief aid sent to the affected areas.
GWADAR BLAST CASE: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has admitted a petition filed by the state challenging the judgment of a lower court acquitting five people in the May 3, 2004, Gwadar bomb blast case.
Three Chinese were killed and nine others suffered injuries in the blast near the Gwadar seaport.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Kelash Nath Kohli, issued notices and bailable arrest warrants for the accused.
The judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court, Quetta, had acquitted Mohammad Aslam Guagrani, Khuda Bakhsh, Mohammad Usman, Master Saeed and Ataur Rehman Mengal when the prosecution failed to prove the charge against them.
Special prosecutor Bashir Ahmed Qazi has filed the petition on behalf of the state.
