LAHORE: A member of the Pakistan U-19 squad tested positive on the first day of the national training camp set up at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday for the Bangladesh tour starting on April 11.

Another member of the squad who has travelled with the above-mentioned player has been put in isolation away from the remaining squad as a precautionary measure. Both will again appear for the Covid-19 test within a couple of days.

After a ten-day training camp, 17 players with its management are scheduled to travel to Bangladesh.

According to Ijaz, a three-day match would be held during the training camp of the U-19 squad.

Meanwhile, head coach Ijaz Ahmad said the tour was important for Pakistan as Bangladesh were world champions after winning the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup. “Therefore, five one-dayers and one four-dayer against them will provide enough experience to our team,” Ijaz said. “The boys have great potential and they are learning.”

He said former Test leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, a coach of the National High Performance Centre, was imparting training to the spinners, who were included in the Bangladesh-bound squad.
