KOHAT: The local elders and Khattak Ittehad leaders from Karak on Saturday threatened to block the Indus Highway over the assault and killing of a three-year-old girl and set a 72-hour deadline for the arrest of culprits.

They were addressing a news conference here at the house of Rahe Haq Party leader Obaidullah Haideri, where the girl’s family lives.

Former MNA from Karak Shah Abdul Aziz, MPA Mian Nisar Gul and Kohat elder Pir Kamran Shah told reporters here that the Supreme Court chief justice should take a suo moto notice of the crime against the girl.

They regretted that neither the governor nor the chief minister visited the girl’s family.

The lawmakers said MNA Sheharyar Afridi had promised the arrest of the girl’s killers within 72 hours of the incident but that hadn’t happened.

Mr Abdul Aziz said the intelligence agencies should help trace culprits for hanging in public.

Amad Azam Khattak advocate told Dawn that he met the DPO and SP (operations) on Friday, who claimed that they had reached culprits.

He said if that was the case, the culprits should be named.

Shah Abdul Aziz said the Khattak Ittehad had visited Kohat to thank the people for siding with the family of the girl’s family and fighting for the dispensation of justice to it.

He said the residents of Kohat forced the commissioner, deputy commissioner, DIG and district police officer to visit the girl’s house to express condolences and promise the early arrest of the culprits.

He got 151 votes and rival Javed Kaghazai 93.
