ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday approved an inquiry against former chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafeezur Rehman .

The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) presided over by NAB chairman Javed Iqbal also ordered inquiries against Rashid Ali Atro, Syed Masood Hussain Shah, Nasreen Kamran Sajawal of the Sindh Workers Welfare Board, government of Sindh, Abdul Hafeez and others, Fazal Amin Shah, Maqbool Ahmed Lehri, the former City Nazim of Quetta, former chairman of the Quetta Development Authority and others.

Inquiries were also ordered against Saddam Bazai, Irrigation and Power Department, Govern­ment of Balochistan, Saleh Moham­mad of Plan International (NGO), Saeed Ahmed, proprietor of GNS Traders, Abid Solango, Accountant, Population Department and others and Abdul Ghaffar, proprietor of Rao and Rana Builders and Developers, Sukkur.

A NAB spokesman said that sharing details of EBM with the public did not aim to hurt feelings of anyone as all inquiries and investigations were initiated on the basis of allegations which were not final. “NAB is a human-friendly institution which firmly believes in keeping the self-esteem of every person,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, the NAB chairman said corruption was the root cause of all ills confronted by the country and surgery was needed to eradicate this menace.
