IT is learnt that at the League-Akali talks on Friday evening [March 1] a 20-point draft formula incorporating the provisions of the Sikander-Baldev Singh Pact formed the basis of negotiations between the two parties, reports A.P.I. from Lahore. Nineteen demands were put forth by the Panthic Akali Party. The Muslim League leaders … discussed each demand…. The provisions of the Sikandar-Baldev Pact … mainly dealt with the grant of facilities for Jhatka meat and teaching of Gurmukhi in schools. The Akali party which is meeting on Saturday … will discuss the draft…. According to well informed circles in both the camps the Akali Party’s attitude will … decide the outcome of the parleys. The Nawab of Mamdot interviewed by the ‘Associated Press of India’ remarked: “The situation is very hopeful. We have come very close to each other.”

It is understood that the Provincial League leaders had made it clear to the leader of the Akali Party that they are not in a position to discuss the issue of Pakistan at this stage but would be willing to accompany the Akali leaders to Mr. Jinnah whenever they express desire to settle the matter with the All-India Muslim League.
