HARIPUR: The activists of political parties staged a protest in front of the central prison here on Monday against the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran by an under-trial prisoner of the Abbottabad district jail.

The protesters, including Imran Alizai, Salim Awan and Shaikh Hasan Abdullah, insisted that the accused, who had been behind bars for over a year on the desecration charges, had committed the offence twice due to the poor administration of the jail authorities.

They also said some people were falsely trying to show the accused a mentally retarded person.

The protesters demanded legal action against the jail administration and registration of an FIR against the accused.

Meanwhile, the Abbottabad jail administration shifted the accused to an unidentified place for security reasons, while his family members shared some medical examination reports on the social media showing the accused has been under treatment of different psychiatrists for over two years.

SEALED: The KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority have sealed a livestock farm and imposed fine on owners of three others for using banned milking injection.

Assistant director of the authority Tahir Habib told reporters here on Monday that the action was taken on the people’s complaints.

He said the FSHA officials conducted surprise visits to different livestock farms in the peripheries of Haripur city and found their owners to be administering oxytocin injection to cows and buffaloes.

“These injections are hazardous for human health, so the government has banned their use but farm owners are using them illegally,” he said.

The official said 40 oxytocin injections were seized; the livestock farm was sealed, and owners of three others were fined.

He issued warning to over half a dozen farm owners.
