LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly speaker has convened a session of the house on Tuesday (today) on a requisition of the opposition.

It will be 29thsession of the 17thHouse as gazette notification for it has been issued by the assembly secretariat.

The opposition plans to raise the issue of the mysterious disappearance of 20 presiding officers of the Election Commission for over six hours in the Daska by-polls and killing of two workers in the election-related violence there.

The session, to be chaired by Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, will begin at 2pm.

The speaker has also issued production orders for Hamza Shahbaz, the opposition leader, who is in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) facing investigation in money laundering and other cases.

The agenda issued for the day reveals that two private members bills – the Punjab Emergency Service (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the University of Faisalabad (Amendment) bill, 2021 – will be introduced, while five resolutions of public interest will be moved besides taking up written queries about the Higher Education Department.

Meanwhile, sweets were distributed at the opposition chamber to celebrate win of the PML-N in the Wazirabad by-polls for the Punjab Assembly seat PP-51. Mr Sandhu and other MPAs were present.

Mr Sandhu said voters cast their ballots against price hike and supported the narrative of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
