KASUR: Pattoki police on Sunday lodged a murder case, including Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, against four suspects for allegedly killing a journalist.

On Saturday, a journalist working for an Urdu newspaper, Ghulam Rasool, had been sprayed with bullets on Halla Road. He later died in hospital. The suspects nominated in the case included Usman Haider, Ubaidullah, Abdullah and Hamza.

The motive behind the killing, according to the first information report, was that Rasool had got a case under Section 324 (murder attempt) and 337 F-3 (inflicting injury) registered against Haider some months back. The suspect had been preventing Rasool from pursuing the case, it added.

Following the murder, villagers, relatives and local journalists staged a protest on Saturday against the lawlessness and blocked Multan Road by placing the body.
