Capital metro

THE Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus system, a boon for the twin cities’ residents, is not operating at optimum capacity owing to maintenance issues. At most of the metro stations, escalators and elevators are often not functional. This causes inconvenience to senior citizens and those who are physically challenged. At many stations, the tiled flooring has either broken or has come loose. The glass panes and benches are broken and need repair as well.

The authorities concerned need to ensure that the maintenance issues hampering the mass transit system are addressed immediately.

THE metro bus service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is used by a large segment of the population in the twin cities. However, owing to lack of maintenance, particularly of the tracks, its condition has deteriorated and needs repairs. The government has increased fares from Rs20 to Rs30, while the service has deteriorated. Since the mass transit is of public importance, the authorities should get the tracks repaired.
