ISLAMABAD: The International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Unit (INL) office at the US Embassy Islamabad and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa prisons department delivered over Rs9.7 million worth personal protective equipment (PPE), hand sanitisers, soap and gloves to the prisons’ staff and inmates to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The provision of PPE for the staff and personal hygiene items for inmates during the pandemic is part of an ongoing partnership between the US Mission to Pakistan and the KP prisons department to improve prison conditions and build capacity of correction officials throughout Pakistan, a US Embassy press release said on Monday.

Under the partnership, the INL and the KP prisons department remain committed to training the department’s officials in basic and advanced correctional institution management and providing them with security, protective and digital equipment to enhance their capacity to manage jails more efficiently.
